COUNSELING SERVICESYouth & Teen Counseling in Sioux Falls
Young people are growing fast: emotionally, spiritually, and neurologically. Sometimes they need extra support to do that well, and they do not always have words for what they are carrying.
Krysta has spent over a decade working with youth facing school challenges, family and relationship difficulties, anxiety, and trauma, and most recently directed a Christ-centered counseling program for youth and families. She meets with young people ages 10 and up, with creativity, humor, and patience, including the ones who do not want to be there.
Is Any of This Familiar?
Anxiety & School Challenges
Stomachaches on school mornings, meltdowns over homework, or a sudden refusal to go at all.
Big Feelings & Behavior
Anger that goes from zero to everything, tears without words, and consequences that have stopped working.
Identity & Self-worth
They are asking hard questions about who they are and where they fit, and the answers they are reaching for worry you.
Mood & Withdrawal
The bedroom door stays closed, the answers shrink to one word, and the spark you know is in there has gone quiet.
Family & Relationship Difficulties
Friend drama, family conflict, a divorce or a move: something shifted, and they are carrying it into every room.
Adolescent Challenges
Growing up is coming at them fast, and their coping skills have not caught up with their feelings.
You don’t have to wait for a crisis to get them support. “Something is off and I can’t name it” is one of the most common and most useful reasons parents call.
Therapy That Doesn’t Feel Like a Lecture
Young people can smell an agenda a mile away. Krysta uses creativity, humor, and somatic techniques to build real trust, so sessions feel less like being analyzed and more like being understood.
Parents are partners in the work, not spectators. Krysta partners closely with you so the whole family is growing in the same direction, in a way that respects both your child’s trust and your family’s role. The work honors both the science of adolescent development and the truth that every child is deeply known and loved by God.
What Sessions Look Like
Krysta builds genuine trust before building change. Early sessions are about your child feeling safe and seen, often through creative and hands-on work rather than an hour of questions. The pace belongs to the young person; the direction belongs to the work.
Sessions are available in person at the Sioux Falls office or online anywhere in South Dakota. For some teens, starting online is what makes starting possible.
Common Questions About Counseling for Youth & Teens
-
Krysta meets with young people ages 10 and up, through the teen years. Adults and families are welcome across CFC's other counseling services too.
-
Often, yes. Reluctant and resistant youth are a specific strength of Krysta's; creativity and humor open doors that pressure cannot. Many teens who arrive with arms crossed end up owning the process.
-
Not the specific details, and that's intentional. For teens to open up honestly, they need to know their sessions are a safe, confidential space, not something that gets reported back. Just like with adult clients, what your teen shares in session stays between them and their counselor.
That said, you’re never left in the dark. We’ll regularly give you general updates on progress, themes we’re working on, and how you can support your teen at home — and we’ll always loop you in on anything related to the treatment plan or ways to help outside of sessions.
The one place confidentiality has real limits is safety. If there’s ever a concern about your teen’s safety or someone else’s — including thoughts of self-harm, abuse, or other risk — we will always tell you. Protecting your teen always comes first.
Building trust with your teen is often the first, most important step toward real change and what makes the work possible.
