KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

Good Faith Estimate

You should never be surprised by a bill for your care. Here is what the law guarantees you, in plain language.

Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate

Under the federal No Surprises Act, if you are uninsured or choose not to use insurance for your care, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate: a written estimate of what your counseling services at Christian Family Care are expected to cost.

What Your Estimate Includes

Your Good Faith Estimate covers the expected charges for the counseling services you schedule, such as psychotherapy sessions. Because the length of counseling differs from person to person, your estimate may describe the cost per session along with an estimated number of sessions, and it can be updated as your care continues.

When You’ll Receive It

You can ask for a Good Faith Estimate at any time before you schedule, and one will be provided in writing when you schedule care. When a service is scheduled at least three business days in advance, you will receive your estimate no later than one business day after scheduling. Keep a copy of it; it is yours.

If your bill is higher than your estimate.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process. Your Good Faith Estimate is the document that makes that possible, which is one more reason to keep your copy.
